Dark Lantern's Light
Video games offer badges and trophies for doing cool or interesting things in the course of the game. They’re a reminder that something fun or funny or memorable happened in your gameplay experience. Why not do the same for a tabletop game? And, even more, I can offer even more than just a shiny gold star. I can offer small rewards for each achievement that you get. This might be material, such as your character finding a potion. They could be a dice roll bonus. They could be a re-roll. Or it could be more extravagant, like commissioning a picture of your character.
Here are the caveats. Only one person in the game can win each achievement, though some rewards will repeat. There will be plenty of achievements to get, so anything more than casual competition will not go over well with me. Working against team goals or acting as a bad tablemate in order to get an achievement will also go over badly with me. To that point, I’m actually going to keep the vast majority of the achievements (and their rewards) secret aside from a few examples listed to give you an idea of what I’m doing here. Lastly, in order to prevent hoarding, the rewards from the achievement will (usually) expire 2 sessions after the session in which they are awarded.
Get Thee To Vegas — Roll three natural 20s in a row
One critical hit of your choice does 3x damage
You Have Rolled… Poorly — Roll three natural 1s in a row
For any one d20 roll, you may roll 2d20 and take the higher of the two rolls.
Voice of Reason — Talk your way out of a fight that likely wouldn’t have been avoidable
Treat an Icon roll of 5 as a 6 when using it for a negotiation or investigation
Kato, is that you? — Suffer new ongoing damage at least 4 times during the course of one battle
Re-roll one failed saving throw against ongoing damage
Bond, James Bond — Gain important mission information by seducing someone who was initially hostile to you
When an ally fails their roll in a skill challenge, you may allow them to reroll it with a +2 bonus.
